    • Dr. William K. Kerr

      1976-06-22

      Dr. Kerr is mostly known for discovering a link between smoking and bladder cancer. While he was working at the Banting Institute and the Ontario Cancer Institute, Dr. Kerr’s study was republished in Time magazine, and showed the extent of tobacco smoking on the human body.

      • All medical specialty societies, including the CUA, firmly oppose “recertification by examination”. Alternatively, “Continuing Education” is supported by all specialty societies.  Therefore, going forward, CME programs (pre-structured topic-based sessions) are added to the Scientific Program.

    • Dr. Alan H. Irvine

      1977-06-22

      Dr. Irvine was born in Toronto in 1925. He grew up in Ottawa and joined the Canadian Army at the onset of the Second World War. After the conflict, he graduated in medicine at the University of Toronto in 1952 and specialized in surgery and urology. He moved to Ottawa in 1958 to work at the Ottawa Civic Hospital and became chief of the Urology Division in 1978. He was also appointed lecturer at the University of Ottawa in 1961 and professor in 1971. He retired in 1989.
