      Charles Robson, who became Chair in 1966, was renowned for codifying radical thoracoabdominal nephrectomy and staging for renal cell carcinoma. He was a President for 2 years since the 1968 meeting was cancelled

    • Dr. Efstathios W. Barootes

      1970-06-22

      Dr. Barootes was born in Saskatoon to a family of Greek immigrants. He served in the Second World War, and in 1943 he graduated from Toronto University. After the war, he completed a post-grad in urology. He moved to Regina until his retirement in 1979. He also served as deputy director of the CMA, as the president was then Irish physician Dr. Barry O’Donnell, acting as joint president of the British, Irish and Canadian Medical Associations.

      • Nominations for the 3 Members-at-Large (MALs) of the Nominating Committee occurred at the AGM the year prior, rather than from the floor at the first scientific session of the same Annual Meeting (to allow a year to consider nominations, rather than days) 
      • The RCPSC decides there will be a single examination in each specialty, for both certification and application for Fellowship in the RCPSC (previously used the same exam, but a higher mark was needed to apply for Fellowship)
      • The RCPSC plans a mid-term assessment for surgical residents after two years of training: the “General Principles of Surgery Examination” 
      • The RCPSC Urology examination includes multiple-choice questions for the first time
